Anja Robinson is a Clinical Herbalist, Functional Nutritionist, Full Spectrum Doula, and Women’s Integrative Health Practitioner. Anja has owned and operated Mana Medicinals, a botanical medicine company based in Southern Oregon since 2015 and started her private practice shortly after, where she specializes in chronic and complex Women’s Health conditions. She is a core faculty member for the Hawthorn Institute as well as Herb Pharm’s Herbaculture program and has taught at a variety of herbal conferences and symposiums as well working as a community herbalist with the non-profit M.A.S.H.H. {Medicine for All Seeking Health & Healing}. She also facilitates Lymphatic Breast Education and massage with the Areola collective - a group of Ayurvedic Practitioners committed to holistic breast health awareness and education. She is passionate about community herbalism, women’s health and empowerment through education and teaches on a variety of topics including Wildcrafting & Medicine Making, Root Cause Medicine, Ayurveda, Integrative Women’s Health, Lymphatic Breast Health, Fertility Awareness and Holistic Nutrition. Anja’s passion for botanical medicine, whole foods nutrition and sustainability has led her on a path of education and travel, where she shares her knowledge and empowers others to lead healthy, vibrant lives in harmony with our sacred ecosystems. She is currently based in Ashland, Oregon where she runs her private practice and lives with her two dogs.

Venessa Rodriguez is a Functional Nutritionist, Certified Health Counselor, & Intuitive Nourishment Guide. Through her holistic wellness company Wildly Rooted and her podcast Feed Your Wild, Venessa’s mission is to get to the root of our collective dis-ease & re-member the soul back into medicine through radical nourishment of body, mind, & spirit. Venessa has worked in private practice since 2011 combining the science + spirituality of food & herbs using a modern functional approach, intuitive guidance, and ancestral wisdom from earth-honoring traditions. Venessa is core faculty at Hawthorn Institute and works as a lead nutritionist at Northwest Memory Center in Ashland, Oregon currently supporting patients in the Bredesen ReCODE Protocol study - a holistic approach aimed at reversing cognitive decline as well as conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. Venessa has a BA in International Studies from University of Chicago, a Masters in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from University of Bridgeport, and multiple nutrition counseling certifications. Venessa has also been trained in Akashic Soul Records reading, intuitive counsel, and cross-cultural healing techniques rooted in earth-based mystical traditions. She’s currently based in Williams, Oregon where she enjoys podcasting, early morning nature walks, cold plunging in wild rivers, and honoring her roots studying Puerto Rican folk medicine & reviving her abuelas’ traditional recipes.

Herbal Anatomy Intensives :: What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn clinical herbalism skills, the foundations of nutrition, and in-depth anatomy & physiology of the body through a holistic approach that weaves together the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with modern science & herbal medicine. We will focus on elemental medicine, bio-individuality, & a whole-person approach to healing that is practical for any level.

 

Clinical Herbalism :: Students will study both human anatomy and physiology, along with an integrative approach to materia medica including diet, lifestyle, and herbal formulas for support.  Students will intimately study the most commonly used plants in Western Herbalism that are also local to our bioregion, including how to correctly prepare, dose, and administer these herbs safely and effectively.

 

Body Systems :: Students will learn the anatomy, function, and physiology of each system, how it is affected by herbs & nutrition, and its interconnections with all the other systems. We will cover the following 5 body systems in depth through an elemental and functional perspective: Digestive, Nervous, Immune & Lymphatic, Female Reproductive, and Cardiovascular.. We will also cover common yet complex specific pathologies through an integrative and holistic lens.

 

Herbal & Nutritional Therapeutics :: In this portion of the class, we will get to know our plant allies and dive deep into holistic nourishment with food as medicine. We’ll explore our bioregional herbal materia medica, evidence-based whole foods nutrition and key vitamins and minerals for each body system as a way to practically apply these teachings into daily life.

Digestive System Intensive

March 21 & 22

Gut health is the foundation of all the systems of the body. Learn the digestive system from top to bottom and understand how this is truly the root of health and can affect a variety of digestive symptoms and diseases. Healthy digestion is paramount for nearly all health issues. We will cover herbal remedies, whole foods nutrition & food based supplements to help bring the digestive system back into balance.

Nervous System Intensive

April 18 & 19

The nervous system is unique in that in no other system of the body is the connection between the physical and psychological aspects of our being apparent as in the nervous system. Learn a holistic approach to healing that acknowledges the interconnectedness of the physiological and psychological factors and the nervous system as a vital part of the treatment of the whole being. 

In this intensive, you’ll understand the Gut-Brain connection and

how psychological and mental challenges can stem from the digestive system. We will cover common nervous system challenges and the key foods and herbs for alleviating stress, depression and anxiety.

 
 

Immune & Lymphatic System Intensive

May 23 & 24

The Lymphatic System is the largest circulatory system in the body and is an integral part of our body’s immune system and defense against disease. Learn a holistic approach to healing that acknowledges the interconnectedness of these two systems and supports deep immunity. We will explore herbal remedies, whole foods nutrition as well as Ayurvedic bodywork techniques you can practice at home to support optimal detoxification as well as immune support!

Reproductive System Intensive

July 11 & 12

Gain a deeper understanding of how the female reproductive system functions; we will explore anatomy and physiology, the role of our sex hormones, as well as understanding the root cause of a variety of common women’s health concerns. From puberty to menopause, we’ll cover herbs and lifestyle practice that support healthy and balanced hormones. 

Cardiovascular System Intensive

August 29 & 30

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death and degenerative disease in our modern world. It is also one of the most preventable diseases via diet and lifestyle factors, and when addressed through a holistic perspective, natural health practitioners such as herbalists can make a significant impact in addressing the global state of health.

Learn to support the cardiovascular system holistically and address issues such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), cholesterol levels, and how to assess blood lipid panels. We will cover top herbs, foods, & supplements to help support this critical system.

What is the Refund + Cancellations policy? What if I can no longer attend the workshop?

For Single Intensives:

Cancellation requests must be received at least 14 full days before the start of the workshop to receive a refund minus $75 administrative fee. For cancellations received  less than two weeks before the start of the workshop, refunds (less admin fee) will only be granted if we have filled your space. We try as best we can to accommodate all needs – yours as well as other participants.  If a student cannot attend a local workshop, a friend or family member can always take their place instead. Please notify the instructors if this is the case. Thank you for your understanding.

For Full Herbal Anatomy Series:

What is the difference between doing the Full Series versus Single Intensives?

In registering for the Full Herbal Anatomy Series, you are signing up and committing to attending all 5 Intensives. Please ensure that you are able to physically attend all five Instensives on their respective dates prior to completing registration. 

 

Benefits of registering for the Full Herbal Anatomy Series:

  • By signing up for the Full Herbal Anatomy Series, you save $250 (versus if you signed up for each of the 5 Intensives individually).

  • You’ll gain a deep understanding of the interconnections and web-like intricacies of the body systems, and how to use a variety of herbs for multiple organ systems and health challenges. You’ll also build rapport with fellow Series participants and Instructors, establishing relationships and connections that are priceless.

  • By registering for an Individual Intensive, you are paying for and committing to that specific workshop only, and are not guaranteed a spot in a different Intensive if you choose to sign up at a later date.

All workshops will be held in person in Williams, Oregon at the Hawthorn Institute. Exact location and directions will be shared upon registration.

 

Will there be snacks or lunch included?

Light snacks and tea will be available. Please bring your own back lunch. Notify the Instructors if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies.
